starling food-fest
	We bought a new feeder and a bag of meal-worms. The contents disappeared in no time. It was refilled with the same result. We wrapped some chicken wire around the feeder to slow down whatever bird (or animal) was feasting off these worms. It made no difference. Finally we got to see what was devouring the food - starlings! It's wonderful entertainment. They soon get to know what's on offer and set about the feeding tube with great gusto. Up to half-a-dozen at a time would descend just like avian locusts. In a matter of minutes the whole lot is eaten.

The Somerset Levels are well-known for their enormous starling flocks.			Sometimes the flocks adopt interesting shapes. These are always very fluid and transient.
