A male. This species is common in North Africa but does move into Spain.
Seen here in Extremadura, Western Spain. It has a pale oblique stripe down each
side of its thorax (visible in this photo) which gives it its English name
[epaulet(te): ornamental shoulder piece].
The brown marks on its abdomen show that this specimen is not quite mature.
The female is predominantly light brown, the male blue.
