Moths often get a bad press, being thought of merely as those pests that eat clothes. Yes, the larvae of a species or two may nibble an overcoat but the majority eat very little other than the nectar from flowers and maybe the juice from rotting fruit. Their main needs are to be able to fly, mate and lay eggs. They are vital pollinators, but this is often not recognised because they do their valuable work at night and are not that evident during the daytime. As you can see they are every bit as attractive as butterflies. Some of the pictures come from sightings at home and abroad but the majority are of moths that have been 'caught' in a garden moth-trap, photographed (maybe after relocation) and then released.
